Living History Encampment

The park’s main living history event for the year will feature historic interpretations of Santa Fe Trail traders, U.S. Army soldiers and Plains Indians. Frontier Skills Day

Adults are invited to take on various roles at the fort for a day. Be a hunter, blacksmith, trader, carpenter, laborer, or domestic. Space is limited; pre-registration required. Call (719) 383-5026 for information. Registration opens on January 2, 2019.

Traditional Holiday Celebration

Witness the holiday pleasures and pastimes of the 1840s at an isolated trading post. Period games, cooking, foods, wagon rides, toy making, yule log hunt, and festivities will enliven the fort. Native American Heritage Day

The park celebrates the close relationship between the fort and the tribes of the Plains. Talks, videos, displays, and demonstrations will highlight the stories of the Plains Tribes. Workshops may include Native American skills such as beadwork and parflechemaking (rawhide containers).

Hispanic Heritage Day

One 19th-century visitor remarked that, "Spanish is the prevailing language spoken at the fort..." Come visit as the rich and colorful history of Mexico's frontier comes alive with period adobe work, music and dance, trading, cooking, storytelling, livestock use demonstrations and other special programs.
